Short Shaft - GKN Grease

I am currently having my transmission rebuilt, and they are ready to put it back in the truck. I told them to replace the grease in both the of short shaft CV-Joints. Mercedes ordered, but cannot get the kits for another 2-3 weeks from Germany. Does anyone know which GKN Grease it uses and where I can get it quickly?

Also how many grams should be put into each joint?

Re: Short Shaft - GKN Grease

I've been told to always replace the center shaft with a new Mercedes unit rather than rebuild.

The other alternative, which I have done, is to use a grease gun needle to inject some additional new grease into each end boot. I used GKN HT1LF-1 High Temp CV Joint Grease.

It's worked for me so far.

I'd agree that any CV grease is going to be fine.   The real problem is that the plastic CV boots get brittle over time and crack.  This is why the grease dries out.  You could probably keep the joint going for a long time with grease injections, but replacing the boot is not that hard.  Also a cracked boot will let water in.  Especially if you take it for a dip in the river.

The boots on mine are either rubber or a very rubber like plastic; and at 93,000 miles they haven't cracked YET.

RE: Short Shaft - GKN Grease

Thank you.
Vlad's prices are more than double the dealership prices. That's a little hard to swallow...
